New wheeled-sports zone in Troon

Scooter riders were showing off their skills as Councillors gathered to see the new wheeled-sports zone in Troon.

The former paddling pool on the town’s esplanade has been repurposed with an exciting array of ramps, bowls, ledges, and railings.

The dedicated zone which can be used by skateboarders, rollerbladers, BMX and scooter riders was provided by South Ayrshire Council thanks to developer contributions from Lynch Homes and Stewart Milne Homes.

Many of the zone’s features are the inspiration of local school children who were asked for their ideas at the design stage.

The facility was constructed by specialists Bendcrete Ltd, who have built hundreds of skateparks across the UK and Ireland. They use sprayed concrete which means they can incorporate more flexible designs.

Councillor Bob Pollock, Economic Development Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “There has been a real buzz about the zone and not only among locals. This is a facility which people will travel to use and that means more visitors coming to Troon which has so many benefits.

“I would like to thank Lynch Homes and Stewart Milne Homes for providing the funding and the project team for all their hard work. A special mention goes to retired Development Officer David Lowdon, who has pulled out all the stops to make this happen.”
