Dear members of Troon Community Council,
Last September I wrote to you about the planned union of Portland, St Meddan’s and Troon Old Parish Churches, and the resulting major changes in our use of church buildings in Troon town centre. You may remember that we opened all three churches on Doors Open Day and produced a short presentation on YouTube.
Since then, a lot of work has been done (with much more in prospect!), and the new united Troon Church of Scotland will come into being on 1st July 2024.
The most difficult aspect of all this change is the closure of Troon Old Parish Church sanctuary (the main church). From 1st July it will not be used as the regular place of worship for Troon Church of Scotland, although it will be used as a festival church – special services, life events, community events – for the time being.
The Troon Old site at the corner of Ayr Street and Academy Street has served the spiritual needs of Troon for nearly 200 years, and we would all like to see it remain in some form of community use.
With that objective in mind, the Kirk Session of Troon Old Parish Church invite you all to a Public Meeting at 7:30pm on Sunday 9th June, to discuss the future of the Troon Old buildings. Doors will be open from 6:30pm for guided walkarounds of the church and halls. Full details of the meeting can be found at https://troonchurch.org.uk/troon-old-future.
We very much hope you will be able to attend.
Best Regards,
Brian
