Essential resurfacing of the northbound and southbound slip roads at the A78/B746 Junction at Loans. Tuesday 26th September until Saturday 30th September 2023.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential resurfacing of the northbound and southbound slip roads at the A78/B746 Junction at Loans. Maintenance will take place from Tuesday 26th September until Saturday 30th September 2023.

This scheme, with a value of £395,700, will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

To undertake this work safely, a series of total road closures will be required at this location with signed diversions in operation. We thank road users for their patience and co-operation while this essential maintenance takes place.

The programme of work is as follows:

From 8pm on Tuesday 26th September until 6am on Wednesday 27th September 2023, there will be a total closure of the A78 southbound carriageway between Meadowhead and Monktonhead Roundabouts, including the B746 southbound on and off-slip roads and the A78 on-slip road from Auchengate. A78 southbound traffic will be diverted at Meadowhead Roundabout to join the A759 and will follow Main Street, Dundonald Road, Harling Drive, and Fullarton Drive. From here, traffic will then turn left onto the B749 and A79 to proceed towards Monktonhead Roundabout.

Traffic intending to use the Auchengate slip road will be instructed to follow the A759 and at the roundabout will follow the diversion route detailed above.

Traffic intending to use the A78 southbound off-slip road will follow the above diversion at Dundonald Road will turn right on the B746, Fullarton Place before turning left onto Corraith Road.

Traffic intending to use the A78 southbound on-slip road will proceed on the B746 to Loans and at the roundabout, will turn left onto Troon Road. From here, traffic will continue on Dundonald Street to turn left onto the B749, Ayr Street, proceeding through Troon to join the A79, south of Monktonhead Roundabout before joining the A78.

From 9pm on Tuesday 26th September until 6am on Wednesday 27th September 2023, there will be a closure of the B746 northbound on and off-slip roads as well as a Lane One closure of the A78 northbound at the layby.

Traffic intending to use the A78 northbound off-slip road will continue in a northerly direction and will exit the A78 at the A759 Junction to follow the A759, Main Street to the B746.

Traffic intending to use the A78 northbound on-slip road will follow the B746 to A759, Main Street and at the A759 Roundabout, will take the first exit to join the A78 via Meadowhead Roundabout.

From 6am on Wednesday 27th September until 8pm on Friday 29th September 2023, there will be a closure of the B746 northbound off and on-slip roads and lane one of the northbound A78.

Traffic intending to use the A78 northbound off-slip road will continue in a northerly direction and will exit the A78 at the A759 Junction to follow the A759, Main Street to the B746.

Traffic intending to use the A78 northbound on-slip road will instead use the southbound on-slip road and will continue on the A78 southbound to Monktonhead Roundabout where it will be able to join the A78 northbound.

From 8pm on Friday 29th September until 6am on Saturday 30th September 2023, a total closure of the A78 northbound between the Monktonhead and Meadowhead Roundabouts will be required.

A78 northbound traffic will exit via the Monktonhead Roundabout and will follow the A79 to turn right onto the B749, Monktonhill Road and will take a further right turn onto Fullarton Drive. From here, traffic will proceed through Golf Crescent and Harling Drive before turning right onto the A759, Dundonald Road and will turn left onto the A759, Main Street. At the A759 Roundabout, traffic will take the first exit to re-join the A78 at Meadowhead Roundabout.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
