ST JOHN SCOTLAND – PATIENT TRANSPORT PILOT SCHEME
A number of drivers have already volunteered for this scheme, however we still need a few more.
We would ask volunteers to commit to a few hours per week on one particular morning or afternoon (using their own car – 45p per mile paid),
to drive a patient to Ayr Hospital and pick them up and return them home after their dialysis treatment.
Please note that the upper age limit for volunteers has now increased to 80.
More details can be found on the links below
Anyone who is interested should contact Colin McCormick, our Patient Transport Lead in Ayrshire & Arran.

Firework Control Zones are on the horizon – have your views on how they will work
Firework Control Zones are on the horizon – have your views on how they will work
Firework Control Zones (FCZs) are a measure included in the Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022, and give local authorities the power to designate areas where it will only be permitted to use fireworks as part of a public fireworks display, or by a person who is employed by, or acting under the direction of, a regulatory authority and using fireworks for that purpose.
The Scottish Government see FCZ’s as a key part of their holistic approach to changing the relationship that Scotland has with fireworks. They are holding a series of workshops across Scotland to provide communities with a chance to let their views be heard as guidance is developed for local authorities on designating these zones. They would like to invite you to join an interactive workshop where you will get all of the information you need about zones and an opportunity to discuss and provide feedback on how these could best be used to address some of the issues caused by misuse of fireworks in Scotland.

ARE YOU IN FUEL POVERTY ? PLEASE SEE THE INFORMATION BELOW >
The undernoted schemes may be of interest to anyone suffering from fuel poverty.
The Fuel Insecurity Fund of is available to support people at risk of self-rationing their energy use or self-disconnecting entirely, including consumers reliant on alternative fuel such as heating oil. The Fund provides support either as fuel vouchers, or via direct payments to their energy suppliers and is delivered via trusted third sector partners, namely the Fuel Bank Foundation (FBF), Advice Direct Scotland (ADS) and the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA). Anybody seeking access or information about the Fund, should contact Advice Direct Scotland at the following web address https://www.advice.scot/ or by calling 0808 800 9060.
Support is also available through the Warmer Homes Scotland programme which offers funding and support to households struggling to stay warm and keep on top of energy bills. The improvements offered will depend on a survey of the home. If a household is eligible, assessors will carry out a survey of it and recommend improvements suitable for the home, which could include a range of insulation and heating. Through Home Energy Scotland, households can apply for an interest free loan for a range of energy saving, bill reducing, low carbon technology from loft insulation to solar panels. Their advisors can discuss what measures may be suitable for you and your home.
There is also a Scottish Government website page dedicated to the cost of living crisis which can be found at Cost of living crisis – Cost of Living Support Scotland (campaign.gov.scot)

Calling All Local Community Groups – Our Community Benefits Wishlist Is Open
South Ayrshire Council’s Community Benefits Wishlist is open for submissions.
Suppliers who win any major contract with the Council must commit to supporting local causes. This can be through activities such as community enhancement; training and employment opportunities; work placements; school curriculum support; and business supply chain development.
The Wishlist is open to any community group, organisation, association, or charity within South Ayrshire who would like to request external support. Contractors will then be directed to the Wishlist and put in touch with community groups if they can help with the request.
There are no guarantees around how long it might take for wishes to be selected, and we unfortunately can’t promise that your request will be fulfilled. However, we will do all we can to signpost contractors who work with the Council to the requests on the portal, and promote the many opportunities to give back to them as part of our procurement processes.
Councillor Bob Pollock, South Ayrshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development said: “Community benefits are a way of ensuring that the financial impact of the council spending money isn’t just benefitting the contract holder, but local people too.”
“Some examples of community benefits that contractors could provide is for staff to plant trees in a local green space; supplying materials for a community build; or providing training and workshops for local community groups.”
“This is a fantastic incentive, and I would encourage all local community groups, organisations and charities to submit their wishes on our website.”
For further information and guidance on submitting a wish to the Community Benefits Wishlist, visit our website.
