The Role of the Troon Community Council

Community Councils are voluntary bodies which exist within a statutory framework and which have been granted statutory rights of consultation. The general purpose of the Troon Community Council is to ascertain, co-ordinate and express the wider views of the entire community within its boundaries. Community Councils will seek to represent and include all sections of their communities, regardless of age, gender, ability, ethnic origin, political or religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. They can complement the role of the local authority but are not part of local government.

Energy advice workshops – Information

Energy advice workshops
Free online energy workshops enable older people to get a better understanding of their household energy use, supporting them to stay warm and save money on their bills, and helping them to be prepared if they experience a powercut.
The Heat your Home for Less workshop covers a range of topics, including energy efficiency, accessing benefits and financial support which could help with energy costs and looking at future options for heating.

The Preparing for a Powercut workshop covers making an emergency plan, preparing an emergency survival kit and knowing who to turn to, as well as many other useful hints and tips.

Both of these workshops are free to attend and will provide useful information for older people and those who support them.

South Ayrshire Council confirms some services will be suspended on day of funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Report by: Eileen Howat, Chief Executive

As a mark of respect on the day of the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, some of our services will be temporarily suspended.

Many of our services were already scheduled to be closed due to the pre-arranged local public holiday, however the following services will now also not operate on Monday 19 September 2022:

•All Sport and Leisure services (including our golf courses);
•Rozelle House Museum and Galleries;
•The Maclaurin Art Gallery.

These services will resume as normal on Tuesday 20 September.

Arrangements are in place to ensure that all essential Health and Social Care activities continue on Monday 19 September.

Waste Management collections will not be affected and will continue to operate as normal on Monday 19 September.

The Book of Remembrance at Ayr Crematorium will also remain open as normal.

Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey said: “Following the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I know people across South Ayrshire, including many of our staff, will want to pay their respects and take time to reflect on a lifetime of service on the day of our late monarch’s funeral.

“While some of our non-essential services were already scheduled to be closed due to the pre-arranged public holiday, we have taken the decision to suspend further services on Monday 19 September. This is as both a mark of respect and to allow those who wish to do so, time to mourn the loss of our longest serving sovereign.”

South Ayrshire Befriending Project

We support young people aged 8 – 18 who are socially isolated and have limited parental support. We provide volunteer befrienders to open opportunities for these young people to access new experiences.

We are currently supporting both volunteers and young people in your area. However, we are always looking to recruit more volunteer befrienders in our local communities. As you can appreciate after 2 years of a pandemic, inconsistent schooling and challenges to young peoples mental health, we are receiving more and more referrals and therefore have to increase our number of volunteers.

Have you a community space?

VASA are hosting an event on Friday 9th September 2022 at The Horizon Hotel in Ayr for anyone who may have a community space that could be shared this winter for those looking for somewhere warm and a hot drink.

State of Caring Survey

Survey link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/YRGTJ35

 The annual State of Caring survey is the UK’s most comprehensive research into the lives and experience of carers. They want to understand carers’ priorities for the future, what support they need to help recover from the pandemic, and to create a positive legacy for the future. They will use the evidence to continue to campaign for carers to get better support.

Their evidence has helped shape Government policy and has helped service delivery organisations look at practice. Last year for example, they used carers’ collective voice and evidence to:-

1) campaign for cost of living increases in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland,

2) provide evidence of the need for a right to Carer’s Leave and other support within the workplace

3) campaign for breaks and funding for social care – and there’s still much more to do!

The survey will close on 9 September and they will be releasing a research report in November.

If you have any questions about the research, please get in touch with our policy team by emailing policy@carersuk.org

A New Deal for Tenants

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to the consultation. The high number of responses demonstrates the importance people attach to the proposals. We look forward to working together with partners across the sector as we develop the final strategy and legislation.
