What documents do I require for the drop in’s?
Under 16’s
Parents must complete applications to consent the travel.
ID of the parent must be provided to show proof of address and photo ID
Under 11’s no ID required
If aged 11 to 15 years bring their Young Scot Card or if they don’t have then proof of ID or address or birth certificate
Over 16’s
Young people to complete application and consent travel themselves.
If this it is a brand new application, proof of address and Photo ID is required
If this is a replacement, please bring along the card

Over 11’s require a photo for their card, we can take one on the day or you can email one we will guide you how or they can keep the one on their existing card.

We support young people aged 8 – 18 who are socially isolated and have limited parental support. We provide volunteer befrienders to open opportunities for these young people to access new experiences.

We are currently supporting both volunteers and young people in your area. However, we are always looking to recruit more volunteer befrienders in our local communities. As you can appreciate after 2 years of a pandemic, inconsistent schooling and challenges to young peoples mental health, we are receiving more and more referrals and therefore have to increase our number of volunteers.

VASA are hosting an event on Friday 9^th September 2022 at The Horizon Hotel in Ayr for anyone who may have a community space that could be shared this winter for those looking for somewhere warm and a hot drink.

 The annual State of Caring survey is the UK’s most comprehensive research into the lives and experience of carers. They want to understand carers’ priorities for the future, what support they need to help recover from the pandemic, and to create a positive legacy for the future. They will use the evidence to continue to campaign for carers to get better support.

Their evidence has helped shape Government policy and has helped service delivery organisations look at practice. Last year for example, they used carers’ collective voice and evidence to:-

1) campaign for cost of living increases in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland,

2) provide evidence of the need for a right to Carer’s Leave and other support within the workplace

3) campaign for breaks and funding for social care – and there’s still much more to do!

The survey will close on 9 September and they will be releasing a research report in November.

ADP Flower Walk – Wednesday 31 August 2022

The South Ayrshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership (ADP) and Recovery Ayr are hosting a flower walk on Wednesday 31 August to raise awareness for International Overdose Awareness Day. VisionZone Scotland Roadshow 2022

South Ayrshire HSCP’s Sensory Team will be taking part in this year’s VisionZone Scotland Roadshow! The Roadshow is an opportunity to showcase solutions for low vision and sight loss. The roadshow will be in Ayrshire on Monday 5^th September 2022 at Walker Hall, Troon. Entry is free and no appointment is necessary. A flyer is attached for information.

 A vision for Girvan – have your say!

People who live and work in Girvan are being invited to have their say on how to improve the town. SAC are working with urban design specialists Create Streets to run a public drop-in session on Saturday 27 August at the Quay Zone in Girvan from 12 noon – 3:30pm. This session will build on previous community engagement and is an opportunity for people to talk about what they like best and possible improvements. During the session, conversations are expected on vacant and derelict sites, as well as shopfronts and the pavilion. Key areas such as Dalrymple Street and Knockcushan Street will also be hot topics.

Pedal Ayr Sunday 28 August – Volunteering opportunity

SAC Thriving Communities team are working in partnership with Pedal Scotland to deliver this free, family cycling event on Sunday 28 August. There’s still time to register to take part before the closing date on Thursday 25 August.

Ayrshire Walking Festival

The first ever Ayrshire Walking Festival is set to take place from 3-11 September 2022. If you’re keen to get out into the fresh air, there are a wide variety of organised walks you can take part in throughout Ayrshire. Communities Fun Day back for 2022

SAC Communities Fun Day is back after a two-year absence. The award-winning event returns on Saturday 10 September, with this one shaping up to be the best yet. Run by the Tenant Participation team, this hugely popular FREE event is not to be missed. There will be many exciting activities available on the day such as, vehicle display area, fun swim sessions and the popular fun zone which features laser quest; petting zoo; face painting; gladiator duel; Miami fun fair ride; sensory bus; teacup funfair ride and much more! As well as being a great day out for all the family, the Communities Fun Day is a fantastic opportunity for anyone living or working in South Ayrshire to speak with various Council services; community groups; service providers; and external agencies. There will be a free park and ride service available at Ayr beach car park, located at Blackburn Drive. Buses are wheelchair and buggy friendly. You can also travel to the event in style on the free open top shuttle bus service from Ayr Bus Station, or from Ayr beach car park throughout the day – kindly supported by Stagecoach West Scotland. Thriving Places Community Consultations

SAC Thriving Places project works with local communities to improve ‘placemaking’ across South Ayrshire. During the last round of Community Conversations, the public explained what the main issues facing their area were. The team will now develop potential actions or projects that can begin to address the problems identified. SAC are looking for local residents to tell what could be done, not just by the Council, but by all parties with a stake in the area.

Troon Community Council is once again running this now famous competition in our town, during the school summer holidays. The competition was originally held for the children of the five primary schools in Troon. Following the success of last year’s pilot scheme, Troon Community Council now open their “Find the Object Competition” to all primary school children in the country.

Entry forms:- Each of the pupils of the five primary schools in our town are given the form via their school. Additional forms are available from the Library in South Beach. The form can also be downloaded here. Find the Object Comp Summer 2022

What you have to do:- Each of the shops/businesses taking part will put something in their window that they wouldn’t normally sell eg. a screwdriver in a hairdresser shop. Fill in that object beside the shops name on the form and move on to the next one. There is a small map on the back of the form to assist young folk from out of town.

Completed forms:- Put the completed forms through the letterbox of Waddell & Mackintosh in Ayr Street.

Prize winners:- In September the winners receive a £10 voucher which can be spent at any of the shops taking part. The voucher is valid until April 2023 to allow time for out of town winners to enjoy their prize.

Troon Community Council is delighted to be back in business now that the pressures of the pandemic are easing. Following this return, and following South Ayrshire council elections, there have been big changes to the composition of TCC. The full list can be found elsewhere on the website.

Update from Chief Executive SAC

I’m delighted to be able to tell you that, earlier this week, Councillors approved a programme of activity to help support South Ayrshire communities to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and provide a boost to the local economy. An initial allocation of £5.852 million has been ear-marked to support and develop activities and projects which will make a real difference to our communities.

I’d like to extend my congratulations to two of our services that were recognised by APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) at their APSE Performance Network Awards ceremony for 2021, which took place last week. Our Property Maintenance team won the Most Improved Performer Award in Building Maintenance, while Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) scooped the Most Improved Performer Award for Street Lighting. With cases of the coronavirus on the rise locally, I’d urge you to make sure you take the vaccine when you’re offered it. You can read about the vaccine and the protection it provides on the NHS Inform website.

If you received your first dose of the Pfizer BioNTech or Oxford/ Astrazeneca vaccine on or before 22 March 2021 and haven’t had your second dose yet, NHS Ayrshire and Arran are encouraging you to attend one of the local drop-in clinics over the next few days to ensure the best protection against the virus. The clinics are available today and tomorrow (Friday 18 June and Saturday 19 June) from 8.30 am to 7.30 pm at the following locations:-

· Ardrossan Civic Centre

Even if you don’t have coronavirus symptoms, it’s good practice to get tested regularly to help stop the ‘silent spread’. The COVID-19 Asymptomatic Test Site will move to Troon from Monday 21 June until Sunday 27 June. You don’t need to make an appointment to be tested at this site – you can go along any time during opening hours (10.00 am to 6.00 pm daily). Full details are available on our website. This site is only for people without symptoms. If you do have COVID-19 symptoms, you should book a test in the usual way via www.nhsinform.scot or by calling 0800 028 2816.

Thanks to all of you who took time to complete our new leisure centre consultation. The survey had 2,600 responses and over 5,000 individual comments and suggestions, which we’ll now review and analyse. We’ll be able to bring you more information about the results later in the summer.

Police Scotland recently asked for public views on armed police officers using body worn video (BWV) cameras to record certain incidents. Almost 9,000 people took part in the survey and the majority thought the use of BWV cameras would increase trust and confidence in the police and make them feel safer. This positive response means that Police Scotland intend to proceed with plans to equip their armed police officers with body worn video cameras this year. They are also considering giving these cameras to more police officers and staff in other roles across Scotland to help to provide additional transparency and accountability when police officers and staff are dealing with incidents and carrying out their duties. BWV cameras are also a vital tool in increasing officer safety and helping to secure convictions against those who choose to carry out rising attacks on members of Police Scotland. With this in mind, Police Scotland have launched a national 12-week public consultation on providing BWV cameras to more police officers and staff across Scotland. The results will be used to inform and shape Police Scotland guidance, and training for police officers. You can access the survey here.

I’d like to draw your attention to the letter from Tom Arthur MSP, Minister for Public Finance, Planning and Community Wealth, regarding the New Year’s Day Trading Consultation. The consultation is now open and seeks the views of retail employees and businesses; local authorities; trades unions; business organisations and others on the possible introduction of legislation to close large retail stores on 1 January.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a tree planting initiative created to mark her Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The initiative invites people from across the United Kingdom to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’. Everyone from individuals to groups; villages; towns and cities; local authorities; schools; and corporates is encouraged to take part and help to enhance our environment by planting trees from this October, when the tree planting season begins, until the end of the Jubilee year in 2022.

Every day voluntary groups deliver a wide range of services across South Ayrshire. The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is a fantastic opportunity to thank and recognise these heroes of our communities. If you know a volunteering group who has made a difference in your area, why not nominate them for an award? Nominations can be submitted between April and September each year and you’ll find further information on The Lieutenancy of Ayrshire and Arran website.
