The Role of the Troon Community Council

Community Councils are voluntary bodies which exist within a statutory framework and which have been granted statutory rights of consultation. The general purpose of the Troon Community Council is to ascertain, co-ordinate and express the wider views of the entire community within its boundaries. Community Councils will seek to represent and include all sections of their communities, regardless of age, gender, ability, ethnic origin, political or religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. They can complement the role of the local authority but are not part of local government.

PB -Participatory Budgeting- Online Voting Forms – Prestwick & Villages and Troon & Villages

Following on from our funding alert for the Participatory Budgeting (PB) funding, the sub-groups for each locality have decided on which groups will go through to the PB events to showcase their projects.  Prior to the events, online voting will be available which will allow those who are unable to attend on the night of the event a chance to vote and have their say on how funding is spent within their communities. read more…

Waste Workers Strike Action

NB Council worker pay negotiations are undertaken at a national level through COSLA with the Trade Unions and Scottish Government. Unless the Scottish Government increases the funding currently available to Local Authorities the current pay demands by a number of Council worker sectors are unaffordable within existing budgets, and further strike action is likely. COSLA has already made it clear to both the Scottish Government and the TUs that any agreements on pay beyond those currently on offer, which are not centrally funded, will only be achieved within existing Council budgets at the expense of major cuts in existing services.

Any concerns regarding this should be raised with your local MSPs as it is beyond the ability of the Council to resolve locally, and every Council has been lobbying COSLA, who in turn have been lobbying the Scottish Government to redress the sustained funding cuts in real terms to Council budgets over a number of years.

For further information on the challenges facing Councils, including the effective cuts to Local Authority funding by the Scottish Government, it is worth looking at the latest Audit Scotland Report on Benchmarking of Local Government Performance 2022/2023 which has just been published and can be found at www.improvementservice.org.uk/benchmarking/reports

A message from Trading Standards – Telecare Scam Calls

A message from Trading Standards

Trading Standards are issuing advice regarding unsolicited telephone calls. Local residents have received calls from unknown companies, advising that they are due a new community alarm upgrade at a cost of £30 and asking for the residents’ bank details. In some cases, residents didn’t have a community alarm and knew it was a potential scam.

South Ayrshire Council Telecare will not phone service users looking for their bank details. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and if they receive any unexpected visits or calls of this nature to:

  • Always check the ID/Uniform of any visitors claiming to be from South Ayrshire Council.
  • If in doubt, push the alert button OR if the caller is on the phone hang up. If the caller is claiming to be from South Ayrshire Council, call 0300 123 0900 to check if the caller is genuine.

You can check if you’re eligible for the installation of a free call blocker by calling 0300 123 0900 and asking for Trading Standards.

Did you know that you can also sign up to the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), which will allow you to opt out of live sales and marketing calls? Find out more at: https://www.tpsonline.org.uk/
