A message from Trading Standards – Telecare Scam Calls
A message from Trading Standards
Trading Standards are issuing advice regarding unsolicited telephone calls. Local residents have received calls from unknown companies, advising that they are due a new community alarm upgrade at a cost of £30 and asking for the residents’ bank details. In some cases, residents didn’t have a community alarm and knew it was a potential scam.
South Ayrshire Council Telecare will not phone service users looking for their bank details. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and if they receive any unexpected visits or calls of this nature to:
- Always check the ID/Uniform of any visitors claiming to be from South Ayrshire Council.
- If in doubt, push the alert button OR if the caller is on the phone hang up. If the caller is claiming to be from South Ayrshire Council, call 0300 123 0900 to check if the caller is genuine.
You can check if you’re eligible for the installation of a free call blocker by calling 0300 123 0900 and asking for Trading Standards.
Did you know that you can also sign up to the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), which will allow you to opt out of live sales and marketing calls? Find out more at: https://www.tpsonline.org.uk/

Marketing Campaign:, Signage and animation: Parking in Troon: ODD OBJECT Competition
Marketing Campaign:
A digital, outdoor, and print campaign is running to promote Troon. Adverts are currently running on ScotRail trains, at various train stations, Prestwick Airport, Glasgow Underground, Facebook, and Google search and display.
Signage and animation:
We are working to deliver extensive signage to dress and promote Troon.
Improvements:
A number of improvements/upgrades have been identified by our Neighbourhood Services Team, and these will be implemented over the summer.
You may already have noticed one such improvement to the Cabin, which is situated across from the Walker Hall, which will have high visibility due to its position next to a shuttle bus drop-off point. New artwork, created and produced by Marr College S6 Advanced Higher pupils and supported by South Ayrshire Council, has recently been installed.
Parking in Troon:
It has been agreed that, beyond the no-waiting restrictions (as detailed on the ARA website), no additional parking restrictions in Troon will be put in place during The Open; all public car parks/spaces will continue to work as they currently do. This means no permits will be issued.
